Meet the Team
Meet me, I’m Portia! In June 2012, at the age of 22 I made a huge leap into the scary unknown world of becoming a business owner and it’s only when I look back that I realise how young I really was!
I went from working a carefree part time job, to hurling myself into working six days a week on my own, in my very own shop where everything was my responsibility! And it was then that I discovered my purpose in life… this was for me, I loved it! I’m a very hardworking, creative person, and if I’m totally honest…I don’t really like being told what to do! This job is just perfect. Full creative pass and no boss!
My speciality is bespoke funeral work; I class each piece as a work of art and make sure I’m proud of every single design. I often find myself closing the door and staying for hours, getting immersed in new ideas for the shop. Or very often I’ll be lying in bed at night writing notes and lists on my phone, Instagram posting or replying to enquiries. I quickly learned that I get back what I put in.
I think very highly of all of my staff and I make sure they know it. I’m very proud I started Sweet P alone, but I realise my shop would not be what it is today without my amazing team!
Meet Jane, second in command. She’s been in the team since 2014 and has a great memory when it comes to a customer’s face! (Whereas I’m afraid I’m useless)
Jane treats Sweet P as her own, and that’s a rare find these days. Always offering to start early or finish late when needed to make sure everything runs just perfectly in the shop. She has a great eye for displaying new stock and putting a ‘Jane’ twist on floristry; loves a fancy piece of bear grass!
Jane’s a very loving and caring lady with a big family at home. Always giving and always doing for others. We have a great relationship and I’m not letting her go!…ever!
Meet Ashley, whose best trait is patience! She is great at listening to all of our customers, and takes great care when taking down orders on the phone, or face to face.
Ashley has been at Sweet P since January 2018 and it’s been great. Ashley has great positivity and is a very uplifting person to be around! She’s always willing to go that extra mile, whether it’s running a last minute delivery out or cancelling a lovely day off for a hectic day at work!
Ashley has a great passion for her job, she’s now an essential piece of the Sweet P puzzle.
